The broadening education gap, fueled by economic inequality, continues to deprive students around the world of equal opportunities. In many regions, access to quality education remains out of reach, and even within the same country, disparities in wealth can directly impact academic outcomes. This deepens systemic inequality and perpetuates cycles of poverty.

In South Korea, admission to prestigious universities is closely tied to students' economic backgrounds. Graduates from top-tier institutions often go on to secure high-paying jobs, reinforcing the wealth divide across generations. The lack of educational access not only limits students' futures but also entrenches social and economic inequality.

Artificial intelligence proposes a promising solution. With a smartphone penetration rate of 74%, many students—regardless of their background—can access AI-driven educational tools. These technologies can act as personalized tutors, bridging learning gaps where traditional systems fall short.

A leading platform is Coursera, a global AI-powered online education provider. It offers a wide range of programs, including individual courses, professional certificates, and even full online degree programs. Through AI personalization, students can receive tailored support, helping them learn at their own pace and focus on areas where they need improvement.

By partnering with universities and companies worldwide, Coursera not only enhances career readiness but also contributes to reducing educational inequality. Its AI-driven model provides scalable, affordable, and flexible learning—bringing high-quality instruction to underserved communities and helping level the playing field in education.

As the demand for equitable education grows, platforms like Coursera demonstrate how AI can be harnessed to drive meaningful progress toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
