"I’m a senior, basically an old tree,” says Heewon Shin (‘26), a senior on the domestic track. When asked about how she manages her stress, Heewon shared that her main outlet is talking a lot with her fellow Cheongshim students. "Everyone has different ways of relieving stress," she says, "but honestly, being a senior in the domestic class is so much fun. The vibes are amazing—everyone gets along so well. I was worried it would be competitive and cutthroat, but it’s actually really tight-knit and warm. Everyone genuinely loves it here." Heewon adds that she wishes everyone on the domestic track success in their college applications.
Reflecting on her high school experience, she admitted that in her first year, she struggled significantly under academic pressure. "It felt overwhelming back then, but looking back now, it wasn’t such a big deal," she said. She hopes that similarly stressed-out 10th graders can take comfort in her story.
When asked about her role as Deputy Head of the Academic Support Department, Heewon shared that she ponders deeply about the department’s responsibility and purpose. "I believe supporting student life is the core mission of my department," she explained. Shin is especially dedicated to improving existing activities. Her commitment to building a positive environment translates into her efforts. Encouraging more students to try out for the Academic Support Department, she joked, “We won’t overwork you to the point of labor board violations—and we’ll make sure you get plenty of volunteer hours too!"
Heewon also introduced the WhyGo3 account, created to help domestic seniors enjoy their final year and to share stress-relieving tips light-heartedly. She hopes many students will check it out.
As the three-year college application journey nears its end, we at the CSIA Quill sincerely wish Heewon and all of the domestic seniors the very best of luck in their exams and endeavors.
