The 2024 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert took place on January 1st, 2024. Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert is an annual concert celebrating the new year in Vienna, Austria. It's traditional and famous for lovers of classical music.
This year, Christian Thielemann conducted this concert event. It's his second time since 2019. Because Thielemann is famous as a 'Bruckner Specialist' they performed Bruckner's music, unlike the tradition.
Traditionally, the Vienna Philharmonic performs Josef Rahner, Strauss II, Karl Michael Tzier, Franz von Suppe, and Joseph Hellmesberger II music in New Year's Concert. Of the 15 songs performed at this 2024 New Year's Concert, nine are works that debuted on the New Year's Concert stage. In particular, Anton Bruckner’s ‘Cadrille WAB 121’, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year, was also attracting attention. They also performed An der schönen blauen Donau by Strauss II, and Radetzky Marsch by Strauss I for encore. When the conductor starts playing the introduction, the audience applauds. Then the conductor stops playing and says New Year’s greetings.
There are many ways to enjoy the concert instead of directly visiting Vienna. This year, Megabox played a New Year's Concert live in Korea. Also, on January 12th, they released the album.
